Writing into Ritual: A Poetry Workshop with Malika Booker

Poet Malika Booker is running an online workshop exploring how the act of ritual can become an important and necessary part of a writer’s journey into creating work.

The workshop will begin with a ritual to arrive at the writing desk before moving into the liminal space for writing. The group will then look into poems that delve into everyday and ceremonial rituals, from how one enters the day to how one prepares for important events, traditions, values, love, and community. Booker will also discuss her own poetic work as ritual, including poems, exhibit work, and interactive performances.

Booker will also lead a ritual during the workshop and participants will be encouraged to write poems from the intensity of this experience.
