Join this workshop exploring Japanese zuihitsu, to challenge expectations of what a poem might be.

From Sei Shōnagon’s humourous categories in ‘The Pillow Book’, to the amusing musings of Yoshida Kenko, to Downpour, the first zuihitsu of Kimiko Hahn (addressing Sei Shōnagon); the zuihitsu can be omoshiroi- Japanese for interesting, amusing, fascinating funny.

The zuihitsu can be a vehicle for many other things, but this workshop will focus on humour. It will include zuihitsu writing from around the globe.

Suitable for all levels. No Japanese required.
