Caldecott Festival Haiku Competition

Closing date: Sun 1 Mar 2026, 5pm

As part of the festival of creativity, Poetry Whitchurch are delighted to host the inaugural Caldecott haiku competition. This year’s theme is simply “countryside”.

There will be two categories: under 18s and adult. There will be a £50 prize for the winner of each category. The competition will be judged by Siân Hughes, winner of the Seamus Heaney Award and the Arvon International Poetry prize.

The winning poem will be announced at the Caldecott festival in Whitchurch on 21 March and the poets will be invited to attend the ceremony.

Winning poets of both categories will receive a cash prize of £50.
