Arts Emergency: Explore

Sat 22 Aug 2026, 2pm

Let loose, revel in nostalgia and set all your big feelings free at a high-energy day of dance, music and workshops, created by young Arts Emergency curators.

Run time 8 hours and 30 minutes (approx)
Free – no ticket required

With a brief to explore the ‘spirit of youth’, these young curators invite you to embrace big feelings, messiness and spontaneity, to make new connections, and have a go at things with the safety of knowing you can make mistakes.

Fresh off their support tour with CMAT, Strut are teaching you how to line dance, while Queer Salsa brings the joy and power of Afro-Latin partner dance. Then shake it into the night with the party-starting, genre-fluid Polyjammerous collective.

Throughout the day, get involved in making an enormous collective diary with artist Camille Dawson (of Frisky Theatre), sharing all your cringiest, unexpected, joyful or transformative memories and thoughts from growing up, or spend a minute making new memories with our pop-up Photobooth. Words from these stories and contributions form the bedrock of the storytelling event the following day.

The day is hosted by drag king, musician and comedian Len Blanco.

This event is part of the Southbank Centre’s Riverside Sessions, running throughout the summer as part of our 75th birthday celebrations. Curated by young people, the programme invites audiences to explore youth as a mindset, not a number.
