    The Hermes Experiment
    Raphaël Neal

The dynamic ensemble returns with works that blur the boundaries between music, theatre and improvisation, featuring pieces by Elaine Mitchener and Meredith Monk.

At the heart of the programme is a new commission by the trailblazing vocalist and composer Elaine Mitchener.

The quartet also performs Philip Venables’ A Photograph with a libretto by playwright Cordelia Lynn, Laura Moody’s Rilke Songs and Metropolis – a work they have created in collaboration with composer and sound artist Jethro Cooke.

To close their set, they present their joyful and virtuosic arrangement of Meredith Monk’s Double Fiesta.

This concert has been specially devised for the Purcell Room and the pieces are intricately linked through moments of free improvisation.

The Hermes Experiment are recipients of the RPS Young Artist Award 2021.
