Be part of Chaka Khan’s Meltdown choir
Calling young singers, and aspiring singers, for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
Fit the bill? You could be part of our special choir who’ll appear on stage at this year’s Meltdown, curated by the legendary Chaka Khan.
Our Meltdown choir will perform throughout the festival, which takes place 14 – 23 June, giving you the chance to work closely with renowned musicians, on-stage and off-stage.
Leading our choir is the multidisciplinary artist and musician, Tawiah. As well as releasing her own music, and establishing herself as a respected film and television composer, Tawiah has worked with a number of great artists including Moses Sumney, Michael Kiwanuka, Dev Hynes, Kano, Kindness, Mark Ronson and The Cinematic Orchestra. So you’ll be in the very best of hands.
Who we’re looking for
Putting young people at the heart of this year’s Meltdown, we’re inviting London-based Black and Black mixed heritage female and non-binary people aged 18 – 25 to be a part of this unique festival choir.
You’ll also be passionate about vocal-based activity and the community and togetherness that music brings. And though you don’t have to have sung as part of a choir before to take part, you will need to be comfortable singing on your own, and as part of a chorus.
What is Meltdown?
Meltdown is an annual ten day music festival held here at the Southbank Centre every summer. It features gigs and concerts from big names and up and coming acts, and each year it’s curated by a different artist, who puts their own spin on the festival. Last year it was Christine and the Queens, and in previous years Meltdown has been led by Nile Rodgers, Grace Jones and M.I.A.. This year’s curator is Chaka Khan.
‘The Southbank Centre's about to light up! We're going to funk it up, rock every crowd, and touch every soul. It's a community celebration, an all-ages bash. Join us and immerse yourself in a world that's vibrant, diverse, and absolutely unforgettable.’
