Hannah Patterson: Ungone – the Play
Devilishly intelligent with a thought-provoking premise, the award-winning playwright and screenwriter’s debut novel gets a new dramatic treatment.
Hannah Patterson’s novel Ungone tells of one woman’s attempt to avoid confronting her mother’s dementia by hiring somebody else to play her part during care home visits.
There is perhaps no writer better equipped for such a formal experiment – in Patterson’s hands the natural interiority of the novel, with its deft handling of the dialogue between the three central female characters, and the high tension of the stage come together to create a compelling new work.
The play stars the award-winning actor Maxine Peake and a live performance by Ana da Silva, artist and founding member of pioneering post-punk band the Raincoats. Part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for the legendary Rough Trade.
