Poetry Workshop: Somatic Rituals for Revision

Explore somatic exercises to ground you in your body and make physical interventions on your poems in this online poetry session with poet Rona Luo.

This event has passed

CA Conrad said: ‘My poems are breathing wild creatures. They stand on the bottom of the page, vibrating in the centre of their bodies.’

Inspired by Conrad’s generative somatic rituals, as well as decolonial reclamation of folk rituals, this workshop – led by former member of the Southbank Centre’s New Poets Collective Rona Luo – treats the revision process as an embodied practice, and theorises that what we need in our body can inform what we need in our poems.

Participants take part in various somatic exercises before developing their own to help connect with and revise their poetry.

Instead of being guided by the feedback of others and our own head-space, we learn to listen deeply to the feedback in our body to create new openings and possibilities for our writing. To preserve the intimacy between you and your poem in development, participants are not asked to share their work.

Held on Zoom, this experimental workshop is fun, low-pressure and open to writers at any level.

With generous support from the TS Eliot Foundation
