Tomorrow’s Warriors: Continuum feat. Jazz Jamaica
Journey through the music of ska, mento and calypso with Jazz Jamaica and party to saxophonist David Kayode’s hi-life grooves, hosted by Tomorrow’s Warriors.
Tomorrow’s Warriors kick off their summertime residency on the Riverside Terrace with a good-times jam session led by the mighty band, Jazz Jamaica.
Founded by Gary Crosby in 1991, Jazz Jamaica are renowned for their quintessential fusion of reggae, ska and jazz. Let them take you on a journey through the musical influences of three foundational Caribbean sounds: ska, mento and calypso.
Expanding the journey and exploring the musical lineage, David Kayode brings his high-energy, hi-life inspired grooves to the party. Kayode is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader whose music sits at the meeting point of Yoruba tradition, Afro-diasporic rhythm and contemporary jazz.
The event is one of our Riverside Sessions, a series created entirely by young people. Come along, whatever your age, to celebrate youth as a mindset – not a number.
Tomorrow’s Warriors, a Southbank Centre Resident Organisation, is a pioneering music talent development charity, specialising in jazz and ensuring that young people locked out of opportunity have access to the resources, social networks and platforms they need to flourish in music and to live into their full creative vision, goals and dreams.
