Within Sight
Step up for a multimedia performance about running, disability and the Paralympics from poet and theatre maker Ellen Renton.
Still reeling from the news that she missed out on making the GB Paralympics team, a young athlete goes for a run to clear her head.
She contemplates what the future holds for her in a society so hostile towards the disabled, now that she’s failed to live up to its expectation of being an inspiration.
This filmed version of Renton’s debut solo show is based on her experience of living with albinism.
Renton’s soft-spoken but hard-hitting poetry dismantles ableism, inspiration porn and the myth of the Paralympics.
Within Sight was commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of disabled artists, with funding from Spirit of 2012. The development of the show was supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
