Queer House Party started as a much-needed antidote to the absence of queer nightlife during lockdown, and now, post-pandemic they’re out in every sense

Consisting of DJs Passer, Wacha and Harry Gay, along with hosts Taali and Liv Wynter, the collective of Queer House Party throw camp, anarchic parties across the city and throughout the festival circuit. And on Friday 21 April they’ll be throwing all their collective energy our way with Concrete Lates x Queer House Party driving through our Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer to the early hours.

Ahead of this event, part of our David Bowie inspired Aladdin Sane: 50 Years weekend, we collared DJs Wacha and Harry Gay to give us a flavour of Queer House Party through a mixtape of their favourite floor-fillers. They didn’t disappoint. Check out their tracks, and the reasons for their inclusion, below.

Harry Gay’s selections…

‘Have Ur Love’, Meg Ward

In this queer house we love DJ and Producer Meg Ward and I ensure I drop at least one of her tracks in most of my sets. This track is giving hard acid house, with stunning vocals and a couple of naughty breakbeat sections, and it always goes off when I play it.

‘Work It (feat. DJ Deeon)’, Dance System

UK DJ and producer Dance System dropped ‘Work It’ last summer and the song is a high-energy dance floor party-starter, providing you with some much needed instant serotonin. I haven’t played this to a crowd that hasn’t gone wild yet. The speed, the vocals, the Sandy B sample and the nostalgic bassline whips people up into an absolute frenzy.

‘Let’s Dance - Honey Dijon Moonlight Remix’, David Bowie, Honey Dijon

I’m unbelievably grateful that this edit from queen Honey Dijon dropped before our Aladdin Sane weekend party at the Southbank Centre. It goes in hard, and I can’t wait to play it.

‘M1, M3’, I. JORDAN

A hot and heavy one from our fave and New Year’s Eve headliner I. JORDAN. I get a lot of inspiration from their sets and it always goes off when they mix in some of their own sounds.

‘That’s It – House Piano Mix’, Naka

Originally released in 1997, I have been playing this in pretty much all of my recent sets. ‘THAT’S IT, THAT’S IT, THAT’S IT - OWWWW’

‘212’, Azealia Banks

The best song of all time, voted for by me. I remember hearing it for the first time and losing my mind and a decade later it hits just as hard. Another one that I know will go off. Azealia never lets me down.

Wacha’s selections…

‘WTP’, Teyana Taylor, Mykki Blanco

This was one of the tracks I had on repeat in the first Zoom Queer House Parties back in March 2020, so it holds a special place in my QHP history. The ‘work this pussy’ sample is super hot and pops up everywhere in queer house edits, and Mykki Blanco never flops.

‘Tear the House Up’, Zebra Katz, Hervé

I love the tension between Zebra Katz’ punchy, sexy flow and the soft, summery house feel. Iit keeps it feeling raw and unmistakably queer whilst also cementing it as a dancefloor activator.

‘Crush on U’, Bored Lord

In my opinion Bored Lord is one of the most exciting queer producers on the scene right now – she’s absolutely all over the place, shelling it at parties all over Europe (including Body Movements Winter edition where I lost my mind to her 160bpm+ rave edits), and this is the first track I heard of hers. It’s a sexy builder and manages to feel really classic and timeless whilst also keeping it fresh.

‘Got 2 (Let It Go)’, Fiyahdred

Fiyahdred contributed an absolute banger of a track to our fundraising EP back in June 2022, and I always keep a close eye on their releases and sets, they’re an absolute pro at tapping into exciting, viral sounds and crafting killer dance tracks. This one is both light and relentless, with a gorgeous UK Garage feel to it.

‘All the Things She Said’, t.A.T.u.

I couldn’t not include this. All my favourite producers seem to be releasing edits of this queer classic; who hasn’t screamed along to this at some point in their misspent youth?! Mina has just dropped a summery edit on her new compilation, and I play a Gasolina x t.a.T.u. mashup in about 98% of my sets. Basically, if you come to Queer House Party, you’re gonna hear it, soz not soz.

‘Mutant Exotic – BADSISTA Remix’, LSDXOXO, BADSISTA

Two of my all-time favourite producers on one track. LSDXOXO has been doing the most for queer dancefloors for the last few years, and just collab-ed on a Tokischa track at which I died a little bit (it’s a bit too heavy for this playlist but listen to it please). BADSISTA is a Brazilian producer and DJ who introduced baile funk to me, and I’ve never looked back since. This remix is hard and bouncy, bringing BADSISTA’s twist to a track that all queer club kids can sing along to.
