Soundpit returns to Southbank Centre

Yep, the remarkable installation from artist Di Mainstone is back at Southbank Centre for a second spell. After a hugely popular run in Spring 2019, families now have a second chance to visit this unique sensory experience. Suitable for all ages and abilities, Soundpit enables you to compose music whilst also testing the boundaries of your perceived senses. Can you feel sound? Can you hear colour?

This incredibly accessible installation, comprising of a number of different sand pits, is the brainchild of sonic sculptor and artist Di Mainstone, who explains “Soundpit is an immersive experience, where the audience get the chance to create sounds and visuals by playing with sand. Everyone has their own idea about how Soundpit can be played. Soundpit opens up the art of music making to all, regardless of age and ability.

So take the opportunity to let your little ones carve their own musical mark this winter, as they interact with the textures and illuminations of Soundpit to make their own masterpiece.

Soundpit at Southbank Centre

The installation was original, imaginative and magical. Both my three year old and my one year old loved it.
