Contemporary Edit

Music that makes surprising connections: welcome to our Contemporary Edit.

Choose from our selection to explore the wealth of boundary-pushing, eye-opening new music that Southbank Centre has to offer.

Dive into the world of Stockhausen with electronic artist Actress, who reimagines a celestial congress debating love in his version of Welt-Parlament. Then witness Stockhausen’s epic Donnerstag aus Licht – an immersive experience that hasn’t been heard or seen in the UK since 1985.

Colin Currie Group perform Steve Reich’s Drumming in the heart of Hayward Gallery, recreating the 1972 European premiere. This is part of a series of concerts where musicians respond to art, including Hayward Gallery’s major Bridget Riley retrospective.

The first ever live performance of BBC Radio 3’s Unclassified comes to Southbank Centre, presented by Elizabeth Alker. André de Ridder conducts works by pioneering composers Anna Meredith and Nicole Lizée.

Plus over 30 premieres throughout the year, from composers including Nico Muhly, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Georg Friedrich Haas and Philip Venables.
